NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Biology Chapter 21 - Neural Control and Coordination
FAQs on NCERT Solutions for Class 11 Biology Chapter 21 - Neural Control And Coordination
1. Define the Brain.
The brain is the central information processing organ of the body, acting as the ‘control and command system’. It is guarded in the skull. It is covered by three membranes identified as cranial meninges – the outer layer is the dura mater which is a tough and a fibrous membrane, the middle layer is the arachnoid, which is fragile and light, the inner layer is the pia mater which is an expansion of the brain tissue. This layer is exceptionally supplied richly with blood and is also vascular. There are three sections of the brain: the forebrain, the hindbrain and the Midbrain.
2. What is Neural Coordination?
Neural Coordination is a phenomenon by which two or more organs complement and combine functionalities of each other through the neural system of the body. The different physiological methods that take place in the body are linked together with each other. The endocrine system and the neural system are mutually responsible for integrating and coordinating all the activities and actions of the organs so that they operate in a synchronised manner. This neural system contributes to an organised and systematic network for a point-to-point connection and quick coordination. The endocrine system executes chemical integration through the hormones.

Mechanisms of Neural Coordination
Elements of the Central Nervous System
Functions and Structure of Human Nervous Systems.
5. Explain in brief the structure of the Human Ear.
The structure of the human ear is divided into three parts, namely the outer ear, the inner ear and the middle ear. From the name, we can observe that the outer ear consists of a visible portion called a pinna or auricle. The inner ear consists of two distinct functional units called vestibular apparatus and snail-shell-like cochlea. The middle ear consists of two mini bones called malleus, incus and stapes.
6. What are the parts of the Human Neural System?
The human neural system comprises of two parts, which are as follows:
Central neural system - It is mainly made up of the brain and the spinal cord. So, its main function is to control the body and mind.
Peripheral neural system - It is a type of nervous system, which plays a role outside the brain and the spinal cord. Providing information to the rest of the body is its function.
7. Write a short note on reflex action.
Responding to the stimulus in an instant yet automated manner is called reflex action. Let's take an example. Sometimes, during cooking, when we accidentally touch the pan or any other utensil, which may be too hot to handle, reflex action kicks in and will minimize the damage, and this can be harmful to the body. That’s when an instant step is taken without thinking about the outcome.
